You love your work. You hate your work. Work is just something we have to do. Have you thought about the deeper meaning of what you do and how it aligns with your life’s purpose? Do you work for money or is there much more to it?
Great minds have pondered on this subject. I compiled a nice collection of thought provoking quotes about work.
I also spent some time looking at the Cambridge Dictionary and Thesaurus. Surprisingly or not, I found the following under ‘synonyms, related words and phrases that make up this topic’: work yourself into the ground, drudgery, the donkey work, chore, caseload, be snowed under, break your back, burn the candle at both ends… You get the picture!
If work, working, being productive, creative and achieving is such an important part of our lives, of our identities, why is it that so much negativity, cynicism and even repulsiveness is associated with it? Does work always have to be hard, a chore, a pain, drudgery? I find, coaching my clients, that it is often the case that people do the work they don’t like. That is simply because they don’t know what they like. Never thought about it properly. Never explored really. Fell into a job…Lack of awareness and clarity in this ever so important area of our life can lead to dissatisfaction at work, loss of self confidence and can easily affect other areas of our life, such as health, relationships and financial standing.
I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on this topic. And if you would like to explore your own work situation, whether you would like to change jobs, make a career change, find a job or start your own business, feel free to contact me.
