☎️The phone rang. The kind that sits on your desk. In the office. 😊
My client asked me out for lunch and then offered me to join his newly established team in a start-up (though they were not called that at the time – yet!)
☎️The phone rang. Again. A couple of years later. A former competitor head-hunted me.
📧An email came. Inviting me for an interview. From the CEO of a company, I met at a business meeting, whom I approached in a follow up email saying how I loved their vision and business and that I could see myself being part of it. After 7 rounds of interviews, they found a role for me!
And so on…you get the gist.
So, what is this about?
At the time, I didn’t even think about it. The networking. It came to me naturally, I guess. And so, all the jobs I had in my life, until I founded WhatWork, came to me this way. Apart from one, where I applied for a job and got it. It was effortless!
So, what did I do?
💗I loved what I was doing.
💗I built a great reputation in the international recruitment arena (at the time, graduate and early career recruitment).
💗I nurtured my relationships with clients, collaborators, partners and industry wide professionals.
💗I always strived to do my best, provide the best service, that went beyond what was expected, I contributed, I offered, I helped…I shared generously – time, resources, content, opportunities….
I was doing all this naturally, intuitively and with good faith. And it paid off!
So, what did I call it, again? Oh yes, networking 😊
It’s simple, really. If you believe that it is. If you believe that:
🤯it’s hard
😩that you are asking for favours
😳that you have to offer something in return immediately
☹️that you have nothing to offer of value
😓that people will judge you if you reach out
😞that you will appear somehow “less of”
Then, I can tell you that:
😉networking is easy – it’s a lifestyle
☺️networking is simply exchanging information and having a conversation
😇every person and every interaction is valuable, if you are open-minded and ready to learn
🤔people think way more about themselves than they do about you!
💪🏼asking questions is powerful!
I’ve had so many clients who landed their perfect roles through networking, applying principles I teach them. In 98% of the cases, it was about changing their mindset, when it comes to networking.
I’ve complied a Networking Guide with some of the key principles that allowed my clients to achieve great results. Would you like to benefit from it?
If “YES” , contact me and I will send it to you!
